A Day in the Life of a PowerFull Secretary
This session will provide training
surrounding a typical day for a secretary using PowerSchool. We will take you
through a typical day of a secretary and all the features used on a regular
basis. We'll share tips on how PowerSchool works for us and what we do to
manage the daily tasks in PowerSchool. Topics covered will include
personalization, searching, attendance, reports, daily bulletin, log entries,
exporting, export templates, and getting data out for daily
inquiries.
Backup - Test Servers
This course will cover typical Backup
strategies and how to setup a test server.
Beginning Excel
In this session you will use the basics
of using Excel including: Opening PS exports, FIltering, Sorting, Page Setup,
Formatting, FInd and Replace, Auto fill, Save as, Sheets
Custom Reports Made Easy
In this session you will learn how to
use the sqlReports customization that is available from PowerDataSolutions.org.
We will cover setup, importing existing reports, and creating new reports.
Basic SQL will also be covered. You will leave this session with several
existing custom reports and the ability to create your own. This is a beginner
level session for users with Administrator (level 9) access to PowerSchool.
This session will be presented lecture style so you will not need your computer
or access to PowerSchool to attend.
Customizations
This session will cover many special
tags that can be used in custom html pages in PowerSchool. Some javascript
techniques may be covered as well.
GPAs & Honor Roll
Learn how to set up GPA calculation
methods and use them for reports, honor rolls and class ranks. Note: if you
intend to log in o your own PowerSchool system to make changes, you'll need
District administrative access in addition to School administrative
access.
Object Reports-intro-
In this session we will learn about the
basic functions of Object Reports. Learn how to create labels, class lists,
report cards and more. Find out about creating, sharing and naming Object
Reports. You will leave this session with reports you will use.

Tables-Where is the Data
The first step to importing, exporting,
creating reports and using DDE is to know where the data is kept. We will focus
on the different PowerSchool tables, what data is in the table, how the tables
relate to each other, which tables you will use the most, how to extract data
from multiple tables, common table links, etc. We will discuss students,
schedules, courses, teachers, stored grades, etc. Understanding these tables
will help you find and extract the data you need.
Excel - Functions
In this session you will
learn about Excel Functions including: VLookups, concatenate, left, right,
Upper, Lower, Proper, Round, Random. This session will be presented using Excel
2010, but previous version information will be discussed. Attendees may wish to
bring their own laptop computer with Excel 2003 or higher.
Excel - Tips
Are you ready for some fast-paced Excel
training? We will cover a number of tips and tricks in this session. Nearly all
are related to PowerSchool. We will cover absolute addressing, copy formats,
format painter, special formats, text wrapping, custom lists & more.
Handouts will be provided.
Importing and Using Test Scores
Don't enter test scores by hand, import
them! We'll look at how PowerSchool manages test scores, how to import them and
how to recall them for reports.
Powerschool 101
This session is designed for those who
are recently new to PowerSchool. Users are strongly encouraged to bring a
laptop if they want some hands on experience and to follow along. This will
cover the overall structure of PowerSchool, using the interface, understanding
how powerful the searches are and beginning to look at student
information.
PT Gradebook
In this session you will be introduced
to the most commonly used parts of the PowerTeacher Gradebook program. You will
be able to see the grade book in action and be given resources to roll out and
train staff. Demonstrated topics include: set up PowerTeacher Gradebook,
entering assignments, record scores, set up student groups, review grade
trends, enter comments, time will be provided for questions and
answers.
Reporting Basics
This course will provide you with a
basic overview of PowerSchool reporting, teach you how to create mailing labels
and report cards, and explore object reports. We will explore the collaborative
nature of PowerSchool reports and you will see how you can take reports that
already exist and tweak them for your district.
Searching
I know it is here someplace! Why is
student data always in the last place that I look? Come join us for a beginners
look at searching PowerSchool. We will cover basic searches, compound searches,
using search codes, and searching in non-student tables. This session will be
presented “lecture style” so you do not need a computer to participate.
However, you are welcome to bring a computer and “follow
along”.

This session will cover how to use SQL
to get data out of the PowerSchool database. Topics include: Basic SQL queries,
PowerSchool database tables and relationships, tools and methods used for
querying PS data. It is recommended that users have a basic understanding of
what SQL is for this session.
Excel - Pivot Tables
In this session you will learn how to
take data pulled from your own server and create meaningful pivot tables and
charts. To be successful in this course, you must have an understanding of
DDE/DDA, exporting data from powerschool and basic Excel. The focus will be on
using Excel and NOT exporting data.
Im a Counselor, Where's My Training?
This session will provide training on
screens that counselors use on a daily or occasional basis. Included will be
exports of data (rank, GPA, cumulative credtis), stored searches, walk-in
scheduling, transcript entry, PDF creation of transcripts, class counts, and
more.

Object Report Tips
Learn how to open and edit reports in a text editor and how to use
advanced codes with your Object Reports. We will build and work on a report
together and, if time allows, you can work on a report that you want to
create.
PS7 Web Page Mgmt
The deep dive sessions provide time to
go more in depth on key new features in PowerSchool 7.0. The session will
provide more details and information on the user interface changes in
PowerSchool 7.0 and provide tips and instructions on how to more easily adapt
your custom pages for PowerSchool 7.0. The enhanced Custom Page Manager will
also be covered and used.
Secretarial Best Practices
This session will be designed for newer
secretaries to PowerSchool. Demonstrated topics including: working with class
rosters, updating attendance, creating groups, using various group functions,
basic scheduling of a student, quick exports of data and excel, creating
personal ‘cheat sheets,’ tips for searching, and perhaps look at what a teacher
sees and how they take attendance and what reports they can generate on their
own. Time will be provided for questions and answers.
Student Searches
Do you want to know more about
searching student records? This hands-on session will provide suggestions for
performing basic searches, using search commands, compound searches and search
codes. You will also learn how to save stored searches and selections and the
difference between the two. Time will also be spent using special functions to
search for gpa, grades/attendance, perfect attendance and log
entries.
Secretary- Year in the Life
We will walk you through the tasks
performed over the course of a year in the life of a secretary using
PowerSchool. We will share our stories of how we have learned to manage tasks,
what works, what didn't work. You will get a big stage look at everything from
enrolling & dropping students, custom screens, school calendar setup,
activities, reports, annual, monthly and by term tasks. You will learn through
our experience of a powerful secretary using PowerSchool!
Custom Forms ELL
This session will provide a look at
creating custom forms and the additional items needed to make the product part
of the school's business process
End of Term
End of Term processing can be
overwhelming due to the number of decisions that need to be made and options
available. Learn what these choices mean, how to perform the mandatory steps
and how to pick the options that make sense for your district.
Going Paperless
Do you ever find yourself frustrated with the amount of data entry it
takes to keep your data up-to-date. How about kindergarten round-up, who types
in all those new students? In this class you will be introduced to the concept
of paperless registration and demographic updates. We will look at how a couple
of districts are tackling the problem of data entry and validation. This is a
lecture based class designed to get you thinking outside the box.

interface for creating custom reports. During this session we will work on
creating form letters, mailing labels, cross tab reports and other custom
reports as time permits. Users in your district will appreciate the crisp new
looks of these great reports.
End of Term
End of Term processing can be
overwhelming due to the number of decisions that need to be made and options

navigate through some of the most commonly used sites.

PT Parent/Admin
Often, office staff are asked questions
about a student grades by parents and teachers. Unfortunately, they don't
always have access to the Parent Portal or Teachers' Portal or Gradebook to
know exactly what each is seeing. This session is designed to help school
officials understand what parents, teachers and students see and the impact
that each has on the other. We will also look at how to create parent / teacher
log ins from PowerSchool.
